Background

The Freedom Lumbar Disc is a new generation disc that unlike the first and second generation discs, not only provides motion but also offers stability and shock absorption to replicate natural disc function.

The Freedom Lumbar Disc is a viscoelastic artifical disc that is intended to replace a symptomatic lumbar degenerative disc at L3/L4 through to L5/S1 and consists of:

• Two titanium alloy retaining plates
• An elastomeric core, securely bonded to the retaining plates (AxioLock)

The Freedom Lumbar Disc provides:

• Shock absorption and load carrying capacity
• passive restraint to the forces experienced during normal daily activities
• Flexibility and motion to the spinal segment
• Biostability, demonstrated through ISO 10993 testing
• Long Fatigue Life: 50 million cycles in axial compression and 30 million cycles in coupled motion fatigue (wear) testing

Specific Indication

The Freedom Lumbar Disc is designed to accommodate spinal levels L3/L4 through to L5/S1 and is designed to withstand the forces and wear charactorised by decades of use.
