July 2010

The 2nd Surgi C Symposium witnessed lively debate on array of topics and included a presentation by Key Note Speaker Prof Rauschning and an update from BUPA.
The symposium was held in Stratford upon Avon on 8-9th July and was chaired by Mr Paul Rhys Davies from Cardiff. Delegates attended from across the UK and all came prepared with a case study of their choice, which encouraged animated debates. These case studies provided lively discussion, where it was commented that ‘very rarely do I attend an event where the delegates speak more than the speaker’. There was also the opportunity for updates on case studies that were presented at the first Symposium for those who had the opportunity to attend both events.
Prof Rauschning presented his world renowned didactic slides on spinal anatomy, which focused on ‘Motion-Preserving Spinal Implants: Pathoanatomical Considerations’. We would like to thank Prof Rauschning for taking the time to present his incredably detailed slides.
In light of the changes with privalty insured patients, we took this opportunity to invite BUPA to present on the changes that they have recently made. This includes the appintemnt of Dr Johann Carinus to work with clinicians to ensure that BUPA try to provide a good level of service to all their stakeholders. This provided a great forum for discussion and enabled delegates to feedback directly to BUPA their concerns and issues.
The 2nd Surgi C Symposium has received positive feedback, specifically ‘when is the next one’, for which the date will be published in the coming months. Surgi C looks forward to being able to provide more forums for educational discussion and development in the future.
We look forward to seeing you at the next event.
